IAM/Boeing - Joint Programs- Apprenticeship Program - The Apprenticeship Program is administered by the IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Committee, comprised of equal numbers of IAM District 751 and Boeing Company representatives. Programs are 8,000 or 10,000 hours in length and include paid on-the-job training and unpaid classroom education. The first 20% of the on-the-job training is a probationary period. Apprentices attend school for a minimum of 144 unpaid hours per school year (four hours per week) at South Seattle College Georgetown Apprenticeship and Education Center.

ANEW provides assistance with job-related expenses for Construction Apprentices in Washington State for qualified individuals through their Apprentice Resource Center (formerly Apprenticeship Opportunities Project). They provide assistance with:

• Initiation Fees and Union Dues
• Tuition for Math Classes and Books
• Work Clothes, Rain Gear, and Boots
• Occupation- Specific Tools
• Transportation
• Driver's License Support
• GED Support

Students interested in learning about AJAC's Youth Apprenticeship Program for aerospace and advanced manufacturing can come learn about the program's requirements and how they can launch their career as a registered apprenticeship throughout the school year.

How do I properly add my AJAC classes to my resume?

1.  Related Supplemental Classes should be put under your “Education” area.

The title =
AJAC Youth Apprenticeship Classes 2020-2021 (along with the class dates when you took them)

You will want to add that they are “College level course that award 15 college credits.”

You will also want to have either the title of “Production Technician or Automation Technician” attached to your section.

For those of you that don’t have much work experience, this steps help employers see that you have had shop experience. Once you gain employment, you will just use the titles for your resume as you will have work experience to list!

Here are the examples for each program – 

Production Technician-

AJAC Youth Apprenticeship Classes 2021-2020  (College Level, 15 college credits awarded for 3 classes)

Production Technician

APM 101 – Precision Machining 1

*Fundamental manual machining skills. Topics covered include and are not limited to an overview of manufacturing, job plans and drawings, standardization, review of basic mathematics, tolerances, engineering specifications, application and use of manual tools such as saws, drills, lathes, mills, and grinders.

APM 102 – Precision Machining 2

*Introduction to precision machining in the shop environment with a focus on basic, manual machining techniques, including feeds and speeds, and milling machine/drill press and lathes.

APM 103 – Blueprint Readings

*Interpretation and application of technical drawings, including drawing zones, the relationship of detail, standard, section and auxiliary views.

Automation Technician -

AJAC Youth Apprenticeship Classes 2021-2020  (College Level, 15 college credits awarded for 3 classes)

Automation Technician

IMMA 101 – Technical Drawings

*In this course, apprentices learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, as well as practice basic drafting. Apprentices begin by learning to interpret the basic elements of a drawing, line types, principles of orthographic projection, and normal, sectional, and auxiliary views.

IMMA 203 – Mechanical Systems

*The apprentices learn to maintain all of the elements of a mechanical system.  Apprentices begin by exploring mechanical fundamentals such energy, mechanical forces, and simple machines. Apprentices learn to troubleshoot, assemble, and maintain couplings, gears, pulleys, chains, sprockets, and brakes.

IMMA 221: Fluid Power Systems

* This course explores the fundamental theories and practical application of fluid power systems with a focus on hydraulic system setup, maintenance, and repair.  Apprentices explore the fundamentals of fluid power systems, including structures and components, operation, safety, as well as interpreting related standards, symbols, and diagrams.
